Solo Show Lab is a 4-session workshop designed to help performers and writers develop ideas and drafts for one-person shows or monodramas. Through writing exercises, feedback sessions, and acting exercises, participants will make weekly progress on their projects in a supportive and creative environment. No matter where you are in your project--starting with an idea or working on a draft--this lab can help your project get to the next level. Limited to 6 people to ensure sufficient time and attention for each participant.
Participants will learn to:
1. Use writing exercises and other strategies to make progress on drafts
2. Understand elements of dramatic structure
3. Utilize tools towards developing characters and other aspects of performance related to solo shows
When: Sunday April 6, 13, 20, and 27, 2-4pm
Where: The Actor's Place!
How Much: $200 General, $180 students, $150 Actor's Place Community Members
Facilitator Bio:
Dr. Katie Turner is a longtime theatre artist with experience across the discipline as an actor, director, playwright, dramaturg, producer, and technician. She is also a passionate educator and currently teaches Theatre at San Diego State University, where she recently was promoted to Assistant Director of the School of Theatre, Television, and Film. Katie has received the Outstanding Faculty Award three out of her six years with the university. Additionally, Katie teaches the Meisner and Chekhov techniques through the Meisner & Chekhov Integrated Actor Training program, and coaches privately as well. Most recently Katie founded The Actor's Place, a membership-based studio and resource center serving actors in San Diego and beyond. @katie_teaches_acting; dr.katie@actors-place.com
